Gareth, our founder, has worked in IT for over twenty years with more than ten of those at director level in both technical and generalist roles. This breadth of experience is reflected in the range of projects that Babrahdev has taken on for clients in the manufacturing, finance, education, and charity sectors since we were founded in 2019.
These case studies illustrate some of the past projects that we’ve delivered. Each solution is designed specifically to meet our clients’ needs. Please do get in touch if you’d like to discuss how a software or infrastructure project could optimise your business.
MRP (Manufacturing Resource Planning) software project
Our client had been using a generic MRP system they’d purchased almost two years previously. The system had failed to give them what they needed, despite spending a large amount on consultancy on top of the cost of purchase and ongoing subscription charges. Due to the inflexibility of the system, a large number of workarounds had been put in place, however this meant the software had become even more inflexible. Slow process times, and non-functioning mobile software meant the software was not up to the task.
With the next annual payment coming up just seven weeks later, Babrahdev agreed to develop a replacement for the software that would include all the functions of the client’s current MRP system, with improved performance, and flexibility to effectively meet their future requirements. The new system would also include a full import of the data from the existing system, so there was no need to keep a version of the old software operating. We managed to deliver this, with a full switch over the new software after only five weeks to allow plenty of time for testing to ensure the software met the client’s needs. The purchase price of our software was similar in price to the annual cost alone of the previous package.
Features included:
- A full web-based, cloud-hosted desktop application covering all the required functions (purchase ordering, delivery booking, invoice processing, stock control, bill of materials, production planning, document management, reporting and more)
- A tablet and QR-based time, attendance and job costing system for the shop floor (replacing fixed PCs with barcode scanners), using existing swipe cards. New tablets could be added at no additional cost
- A tablet-based stock management system for performing stock checks and material movements, again QR-based, and again with no additional cost to add more tablets
- Integration with the company’s account package (Xero) and CAD software (SolidWorks EPDM).
Due to the flexibility the bespoke software provided, it has continued to be developed to add even more features, and to grow and change with the company’s needs.
Indietracks Festival app
Indietracks was a small music festival that took place at a heritage railway centre in Derbyshire. This well-loved festival ran as a charity fundraiser and therefore operated on a tight budget.
The Indietracks team came to Babrahdev a few months before the 2019 festival, looking for an update to their Android app. We reviewed the existing app and re-wrote the code to improve stability and the overall user experience. We also added a few more bells and whistles!
The app was branded in the 2019 festival colours and designed to be easily navigable on the go with a small number of pages providing information about artists, stage times, workshops and other essential details.
Innovative features include Spotify integration on individual artist pages, helping users to navigate the inevitable festival clashes with just one click! With clashes in mind, we also designed a ‘like’ function for users to identify their ‘must see’ artists and mark them clearly on the festival timeline to avoid missing out.
The app was developed using Xamarin (C#) and progressed from the initial brief, through testing and release in a matter of weeks. Anecdotal and Google Play (5*) feedback from users has been very positive.
Although the Indietracks app was a small and straightforward project for Babrahdev, it shows how effective a simple app or application can be.
